A password generator is a tool that creates random, secure passwords to protect your online accounts. Unlike weak passwords that are easy to guess, generated passwords use complex combinations of letters, numbers, and symbols that are nearly impossible for hackers to crack. Our free password generator creates strong passwords instantly in your browser, ensuring your sensitive information never leaves your device.

What makes a password strong?

A strong password should be at least 12 characters long, include a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid common words, personal information, or sequential patterns.

Is my password generated securely?

Yes, all password generation happens entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your passwords are never sent to our servers, ensuring complete privacy and security.

How long should my password be?

The recommended length is at least 12 characters for general use, and 16-20 characters for highly sensitive accounts like banking or email.

What is a pronounceable password?

Pronounceable passwords combine random words with numbers, making them easier to remember while maintaining security. For example: Tiger42Cloud is easier to remember than T9#kL@mP2.

Why exclude ambiguous characters?

Ambiguous characters (0, O, 1, l, I) can be confused when reading or typing. Excluding them reduces errors, especially when manually entering passwords.

Can I generate multiple passwords?

Yes, you can generate multiple passwords by clicking the "Generate New" button repeatedly. Each password will be unique and secure.

Can I copy the password?

Yes, you can copy the generated password to your clipboard by clicking the copy button or clicking directly on the password display area.

Can I customize the password settings?

Yes, you can adjust the password length using the slider (4-64 characters) and toggle various character types (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols, extended) to customize your password.

How does the strength indicator work?

The strength indicator shows Weak, Medium, Strong, or Very Strong based on length, character variety, and complexity. Longer passwords with more character types are stronger.

Are the generated passwords truly random?

Yes, our password generator uses cryptographically secure random number generation (Web Crypto API) to ensure truly random passwords that are unpredictable and secure.

Use Unique Passwords for Every Account

Never reuse passwords across different services. If one account is breached, unique passwords prevent attackers from accessing your other accounts.

Aim for at Least 16 Characters

Longer passwords are exponentially harder to crack. A 16-character password with mixed character types would take centuries to brute-force with current technology.

Enable Two-Factor Authentication

Even the strongest password can be compromised. Add 2FA (authenticator app or hardware key) as a second layer of defense for all important accounts.

Use a Password Manager

Store generated passwords in a reputable password manager like Bitwarden, 1Password, or KeePass. You only need to remember one strong master password.

Never Share Passwords in Plain Text

Avoid sending passwords via email, chat, or SMS. Use a password manager sharing feature or a secure one-time link service instead.

Change Passwords After a Breach

Monitor breach notification services like Have I Been Pwned. If any of your accounts appear in a breach, change those passwords immediately.

Avoid Personal Information

Never include names, birthdays, pet names, or other guessable personal details in passwords. Truly random passwords are always more secure.

Check for Data Breaches Regularly

Check your accounts on Have I Been Pwned (haveibeenpwned.com) to see if your email has appeared in known data breaches. If a breach includes your password, change it immediately even if you think it was unique to that service.

Consider Passphrases for Memorable Security

For high-value accounts (banking, email, work), use a passphrase of 4-5 random unrelated words (e.g., "correct-horse-battery-staple"). Passphrases are long enough to be very secure and much easier to remember than random character strings.

Audit and Rotate Credentials Periodically

Review and revoke unused application passwords and API keys periodically. Old tokens for services you no longer use are unnecessary attack surface. Rotate all credentials annually as a good security hygiene practice.
